3 Words You Never Want in Your Creator Contracts

One aspect of being a creator that you might not have thought about is understanding contracts.

When you don’t know what you should be looking out for, you might be agreeing to terms that could come back to hurt you in the long run.

There are three key words I’m on the lookout for when I first get a contract from a brand: irrevocable, perpetual, and indemnification.

Today we’re diving into what each of these words actually mean and how you can negotiate to protect your future opportunities and get paid fairly.

🫣 US TikTok negotiations are at a standstill with 30 days left to arrange a deal

  • There are reportedly no negotiations happening because the US hasn’t designated an official to lead the discussions.

  • There are several big tech players that are looking to acquire stake in the app in the US, but there are no leads on how it will play out.

📸 TikTok shared tips on how to create engaging photo posts

  • They emphasized the importance of descriptions in driving interest in static image posts.

    • This includes using keywords that are relevant to your content to maximize discovery.

    • Your title can play a key role in getting people to pay attention to your image sets

    • Try to tell a story with your images, and use text on screen and audio to compel viewers to swipe through

    • Provide a direct call to action to drive viewer engagement and response

🎥 Instagram shared more insight on their new Edits app

  • Some of the features mentioned are

    • The ability to manage multiple projects at once, all accessible in the “Projects” tab

    • A “Cutouts” editing tool

    • AI generated background editing

    • Still image animation

    • Collaboration tools

  • Not all of these features will be available right away when the app is scheduled to be released on March 13th.

👯 Instagram is live testing their ‘Blend’ Reels sharing feature

  • When activated you can invite people to join your Blend feed which enables you to see each other’s suggested Reels.

  • This is in response to the high amount of Reels that are shared over DMs.
